Echo of Stillness I: The Breath and the Stone

A breath moved along a riverbank and found a stone, resting half-buried in the soil and partially immersed in water.

“Why do you sit so close to the ground?” asked The Breath.

The Stone was silent for a time, then answered, “I listen for what lies beneath, but all I hear is that which is above.”

The Breath whispered, “Stop Listening.”

The stone felt this, grew quiet, and remained, as The Gentle Water smoothed it’s surface.
